International Peace Day

The international peace day also known as peace day is celebrated by the world on a fixed date – September 21st each year. This is an effort to recognize those that are working hard to end violent conflict and promote peace.
Over the years, the Shedrack Agediga Foundation has marked the international peace day with different initiatives and programs to pass the globalised message of peace to the nooks and crannies of the Niger delta.
Since 2016 every following year has been remarkable for peace work as we mark the international peace day with a duty to one of our thematic areas of Peace Building and Non-violence education.
The year 2016 international peace day workshop held at wellington hotel in effurun was themed; sustainable development goals: building blocks for peace. The audience ranged from community leaders to high ranking government officials and chief executives.
The need for the implementation of the sustainable development goals at all levels of formal and administrative leadership from top to the smallest unit of a community to secure peace by offering prosperity was the aim of the program.
While, we have made progress in Democratic Governance at the Community Level through training of different leadership structure and most especially the youths through programs like this, we also have done much sensitizing the public on the need for peace and to keep the peace.
This was the strategy of implementation for the 2017 international peace day themed; Together for peace. A peace walk along the major streets of Warri and its environs to educate and inform the residence on the need for peace.
The walk was joined on invitation by partner NGO’s like partnership for peace(P4P) and J.D FOH foundation and people from all works of life. The message of Peace was also taken to Warri prison in mates with efforts to support logistical operations operation of the correctional facility.
The international peace day held in 2018 was held in Warri and it was uniquely themed; the right to peace- the universal declaration of human rights at 70. This peace day celebration was anchored on the reminder that upholding human rights is the prerequisite for peace. Like every other year, we target decision makers within society and groups. While we urge them to let their choices reflect their want for a great and prosperous society and human kind.
The 2019 international day of peace was globally themed; Climate action for peace, with a touch of local need to expatiate to Glocal impact of climate change: developing local partnerships for action held at obotobo1 community in Ogulagha kingdom,Burutu local government area in delta state.
The significance of the address where the 2019 peace day held is to buttress how we carefully try to impact the Niger delta.
Top of the discussions made by guests and panelist from sister NGO, government and the people carefully sought to address the scourge of artisanal refining of crude oil on the soil and water bodies and its overall impact on peace.
While we keep pursuing the goal of peacebuilding with every opportunity in the Niger delta, we are determined like never before to make a difference for PEACE.
